TFA congratulates Shaun Grant and his fellow writers on their WGA TV nomination for Mindhunter!
Congratulations to TFA’s Shaun Grant on winning Best Adapted Feature for True History of the Kelly Gang at the 2019 Australian Writers’ Guild Awards – the AWGIES.
The AWGIES honoured beloved and iconic Australian stories as well as rich, bold works with global reach in equal measure.
Based on the novel of the same name by Peter Carey, True History of the Kelly Gang will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival gala presentation on September 11, with additional screenings on September 12 and 13.
This is Grant’s 5th nomination and tth win at the Australian Writers’ Guild awards, previously winning AWGIES for his work on Snowtown, Berlin Syndrome, Jasper Jones and Deadline Gallipoli.
The BBC will soon air Sister Pictures’ Giri/Haji directed by TFA’s Ben Chessell.
The crime thriller shot in the UK and Japan is a co-production between the BBC and Netflix, airing first in the UK in late 2019, and then streaming on Netflix in 2020.
Ben, pictured on the Giri/Haji set above, has commenced shooting in the UK on his next premium drama project for Hulu.
TFA’s mutli-talented writer/director Sarah Bassiuoni is part of the new pool of writers on Season 2 of the hit series The Heights for ABC TV (Matchbox Pictures)
A recent recipient of Developing the Developer from Screen Australia, Sarah is also currently working with Fremantle Media and has recently directed a web series for ABC IVIEW – soon to be announced.
Chris Bath returned to screens around Australia as the host of nightly entertainment program Invictus Games Today, during the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 on ABC.
The prime-time show was broadcast out of the Invictus Games precinct at Sydney Olympic Park. Invictus Games Today was a lively half-hour that captures – and helps create – the spirit of the Games, delivering a nightly roundup of results and achievements.
Chris, who also hosts Evenings on ABC Radio Sydney, was joined by co-host Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann and panellists Dylan Alcott from triple j and former Invictus Games competitor Damien Thomlinson, as well as a rotating team of Invictus Games Sydney 2018 competitors, military personnel, mental health professionals. sports experts, and some surprise familiar faces.

TFA’s acclaimed director, who was nominated for an Australian Directors’ Guild Award for his work on The Family Law Series 2 & 3, recently wrapped on Doctor Doctor before jetting off to the UK to join the Sister Pictures production.
Ben will be one of two directors on the series produced by Jane Featherstone and penned by Humans writer, Joe Barton. Giri/Haji follows a middle-aged Tokyo detective who travels to London in search of his wayward younger brother believed to be posing as a Yakuza gangster. The series is set to air on BBCOne while Netflix will stream globally outside of the UK.
After completing work on Dr Who for the BBC, Director of Photography, Simon Chapman, has commenced shooting Gentleman Jack. The new eight-episode drama series from BAFTA-winning writer Sally Wainwright (To Walk Invisible, Happy Valley), stars Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle and is produced by Lookout Point.
Gentleman Jack tells the story of Anne Lister, a 19th-century Yorkshire landowner and mountaineer who wrote a four-million-word diary and suffered endless harassment for her sexuality.
The series will be aired on BBC One in the UK and HBO internationally. Chappy intends to be back in Sydney in 2019.
The Family Law season two will commence on SBS; Thursday the 15th of June at 8.30pm. The series was directed by The Fleming Agency’s Ben Chessell.
The Family Law is a coming-of-age story told through the eyes of teenager Benjamin as he navigates growing up amidst the chaos of his hilarious, heart-warming and dysfunctional family.
The show was developed and produced by Matchbox Pictures in association with Screen Queensland, Screen Australia and SBS.
